hey guys !!! :) :)
I'm just done with Hindi , all packed and disposed off with matie , :) i probably smile as much when I'm around my girlfriend, i look kind of sick though , but chuck that , ah ! not my girlfriend! i mean the topic of how sick i look when i smile too much .
So Hindi is done with , and i have science next , my conscience is practically screaming at me , go study science you oaf, i have no idea why i let my conscience get away by calling me a oaf ??
Right to the matter at the hands , Bhavesh told me today , not in the strictest confidence mind you , that he and a few other similar bright people ,( bloody light bulbs) not derogatory mates !
have got through in sstse , for those who don't understand the acronym , probably shouldn't read this , in fact , probably shouldn't read my blogs , for i fear you ll be lost , like i am among my books .
Congratulations guys !!! i mean it . I m not jealous or anything , okay , maybe a little , but then that is not the topic today , neither is it economics , (actually it is economics but not in its usual form ) .
So if your a teenager , you ll probably have an idea that every second person wants to be an engineer , and all those who want to become engineers , a majority of them want to get into IIT .
They join tuition's , work hard , they re bright , and probably would get in . They ll pass out also in one piece inshallah , but the what ?
Has anyone put the slightest thought into the fact , that the immense competition that exists to get into these colleges , i mean lakhs and lakhs of kids try , they'll all get into some engineering college or the other , but what is the point ????
Now you may have got the gist of what I'm trying to say , but then , I'm not saying don't be engineers , have a life , make your own choices , but am here to tell you about the the effect it may have on the economy .
A majority of my friends today want to become engineers , no they don't want to construct a magnificent building or make a new type of alloy , or create a revolution , all they want to do is become engineers !
Id like to ask people , do you have any idea what engineers do ?
some may , heck , i believe Indians are the smartest in the world (i mean intelligent) . But even here , most don't , right from the first day of their lives , their parents have been feeding them bournvita to the same amount as they tell them to be engineers , as a result , the mind focuses on being an engineer rather than finding out what an engineer does .
Well guys let me break it to you , engineers design stuff , they works as you may call it. They design stuff so that is works , that's what engineering means .
Now if we have a billion Indians by the end of the decade whose basic qualification is to design stuff , then we may have a bit of a problem .
Now the economics comes in , first the basics , economics can be summarised in two words , demand and supply and this can be used for everything , from money to engineers .
By the end of the decade , i don't see how there can be such a explosion of demand for engineers , it increased due to the software boom , but that's over (RIP) , such a revolution is unlikely at the best . Even if something like this does occur , it wont necessarily positively affect engineers .
So the demand is constant , but the supply , is explosive(face it , India produces more engineers than Europe and America put together) , so there you have a slump.
A slump will cause a shortage of jobs , so only the best , i.e creme de la creme will have something to do . That is a very small proportion , more the people , smaller the proportion , now what would you bonny lads do then ?
Whatever you may do , you ll be underpaid , that means basically the same as underemployment but except here you ll be employed , but wont get paid according to your qualification.
As a result , you ll only bring the economy down , reduction in the GDP(as your buying power would be less) as a result of the lowered GDP , the jobs available would be less, or those who have jobs would be paid even less, so basically it ll create a vicious circle . This would result the economy in crashing ! boom boom , and then other people will be left collecting the pieces .
This crash is because of the real estate , the last one because of the war , neither are likely to happen again , but since economy is cyclic , there will be a depression , for sure , most probably it'll be because of the engineers , then what Will you do ???
Don't think about me , I'm smart enough to find a way for myself , but think about yourself , for becoming an engineer doesn't make you god , it puts you at the bottom of the chain. Rething what youve thought and then well , i know i wont change your decision , but well , mark my words , there will be another depression and it will be because of the engineers

anjaneya wow!!!....i didnt knw ure dat smart!..lolzz...but this is soo true...even i loathe da fact tht more thn half ov india is into engineering...nd da oda half is in the process of bcumin an engineer!!..huh...moreova its such a boring job..atleast i feel so!!...gud wrk buddy...if it jalaofies even i would b engineer's dimag ki batti...ure wrk is done!!...kool yar!!...keep it up!!
hmm... Anjaneya,, well you've just highlighted the reality.. m glad!! But thr is indeed a demand for engineers. When India is saturated, why not try abroad... obviously we wnt to promote our economy but if some personal intrst comes in way, thr is no harm.. right? I know other countries also produce equal numbr of engineers but those who have the will WILL find a way, though late but its beyond a doubt. Engineering is a craze. It's an ICON that proves a prson's intellectual (yes, u know that). I'm not against other career options but doin engineering with a C+ Grade or a GP of 2-3, won't make sm1 a rilly successful engineer. And ppl act tough only when they face competition. A man alone, is a drone or USELESS!!
Overol,, you've presented today's reality quite efficiently. I'm yet again impressed. :)
hey..
nice thoughts...
literally...next time...combine the thoughts properly, be a bit more clearer.
and overall,
i read it till the end(thatz rare)
n yes...u r correct on some matter but not on all the economic thing. shobhit has a point here.
but see shobhit...what will happen when the bright minds go abroad, wouldnt india be short of intelligent people!...even that doesnt do the economy good...n thatz exactly whats happening!!!
n aashima, i know we both dont possess the aptitude to become engineers, but its not boring.
i TOTALLY disagree.people arent going bonkers for no reason.
back to anju..
NICE WORK...

What your forgetting is ,all an engineer does , IS DESIGN THINGS! they dont do ANYTHING more than that ! so basically , India being saturated is precisely what im talking about ! India is bloody saturated , i have nothing against foreign nations , but i love my country and wouldnt like to leave it for anything , and specially not for a job ! So there you go shobhit ,your contradicting your own point mate
And shobhit , i dont really like to bring this to light , but mate , the people who have a gpa of 2-3 to 5 , that is the bottom few , well theyre the only ones who actually WORK as engioneers later on , you have them and you have the other very rare bright ones ! One more thing , being an engineer is not a yardstick for anyones intelligence ! Not in a million years ! Your showcasing the stereotyped views of the nation that :" Banda enggg kar raha hain , smart to hoga hi ! " : there are hundreds of engg colleges my friend ! and they produce thousands of graduates , im not talking only of iit . And these people are also engg and theyre also bright
